Godsmack has a fully-packed 2023. The band embarked on a spring/summer outing to promote their latest album, Lighting Up the Sky. The 2023 effort topped Billboard’s Hard Rock charts and peaked at number 19 on the Billboard 200. Spawning the hit single “Surrender,” the album follows the band’s series of successful studio releases. Twenty-three years ago, the band entered the Billboard 200’s Top 5 with their third effort, Awake. The career-defining record peaked at number 5 on the chart and featured several Mainstream Rock hits, such as the title track, “Bas Magick,” and “Greed.” After the success of their third album, the band dropped three number-1 records from 2003 to 2010. The albums all topped the Billboard 200- Faceless was certified platinum, while IV and The Oracle were certified gold.
Los Angeles-based outfit Tool has been a progressive rock/metal fusion purveyor since emerging in the ‘90s. The band has released several influential tracks, such as “Lateralus,” “Forty Six & 2,” “Parabola,” and “Pushit.” The band has won five Grammy Awards and a Billboard Music Award. Tool released their debut album Undertow in 1993. The record performed moderately well, entering Billboard 200’s Top 50 and topping the Heatseekers Albums. In 2019, the Undertow reentered the chart, peaking at number 19. As of three years ago, the album sold over three million copies in the U.S., earning its three platinum certifications. The legacy of Undertow has kept heavy metal music prominent and paved the way for many heavy metal bands like Deftones, Chevelle, and Mastodon, among others.
In 1998, the band won their first Grammy when the single “Ænema” won Best Metal Performance. The single is featured in the band’s 1996 effort with the same name. In 2001, Tool dropped their first number 1 record, Lateralus. The album topped the Billboard 200 and entered the charts in 20 other countries. Lateralus spawned several hits, “Schism,” “Parabola,” and the title track – all of which entered the Hot Rock and Alternative Song’s Top 20. That same year, Tool debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 when “Schism” peaked at number 67 on the chart.
Sensational rap metal quintet Limp Bizkit dominated the airwaves in 1999 when they released their breakout hit, “Nookie.” The single is featured in their sophomore effort, Significant Other, which topped the Billboard 200 upon its release. The album later sold over 16 million copies worldwide, seven million of which were sold in the U.S. After the band’s fantastic breakthrough, Limp Bizkit moved on to release four more highly-acclaimed studio efforts. Their phenomenal career has also earned multiple awards, including a Billboard Music Award, three Grammy nominations, three MTV Europe Awards, and many more.
